ABOUT ME
I'm Dr Shyh-Mee Tan. I am an educator, information professional, a researcher, information literacy and school library consultant. School library is my passion. Due to the recognition of my effort and works, I was awarded ‘Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan’ Scholarship by the Ministry of Education to do my PhD in Library and Information Science in 2008.
I continue to write academic journal articles and conference papers such as Reading Habits and Technology Use among Malaysians Pupils in the Digital Age, Information Literacy, and Technology Readiness among Malaysian School Librarians, Information Literacy Bibliometrics Studies in the Asia Pacific and Factors influencing Information Literacy Implementation in Malaysia.
In order to write these papers, I am carrying out small-scale research on my own without any grants or financial support from any educational institutions. Both of my former supervisors are very helpful and supportive. Occasionally, they provide their pieces of advice, experiences, and consultations to my writings. I try my best to use and practice my skills and knowledge.
I also volunteered for online tutoring as an Online Media & Information Literacy tutor for UNESCO and Athabasca University Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID) Course, in partnership with the International Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue University Network.
I learned and picked up the skills along the way. Now, I am able to provide free-lance scholarly information searching skills to Master and PhD students to fulfil my personal satisfaction to share my knowledge with those who need them.
As a working woman, balancing my time between work at school, family demands and my research, I have put in hard work, determination and perseverance to complete my tertiary education to the highest level.
